Zenfolio or Shutterfly?

I’m in the process of organizing all of my stock photography and need to find a place to sell them trough. There are so many. So far, I’ve got a comparison for Zenfolio and Shutterfly that a fellow photographer did. I am going to check out more websites that offer stock photography through:

Zenfolio

They take 12% AFTER deducting the base price and shipping.

If I sell an 8×10 for 15.00, I get $11.45 ($15.00 – $1.99 – $1.56)

Shutterfly

Solve the plug-in problem in Vista 64-bit

No, it isn’t your editor! It is a Factory setting you can “re-instruct” that will allow your plugins to work. You can see the original script and additional support links from Xero here.

Proper Website Structure

I found this article on creating a good website structure handy. Full credentials for article and image to the author. Info at bottom of page.

When developing your website, think how to structure your website directory, where to locate your web pages in regards to the index.htm (home page) file. Place the more important files in the root directory. Then create other directories under your root directory in which to place other web pages that are not as important. By doing so, it is easier to find files you want to edit, delete, or move somewhere else.

Put all of your image files into an image directory and then create sub-directories under that. An example would be to have a directory called photo and place all photographs of business associates in it. Also make a sub-directory called banner and put all of your banners, logos, and ebook covers in that directory.

Below is a simple example of a directory structure:

It is a good idea to have a “download area”. Since you will have several different kinds of downloads, the areas will be different. For free reports or viral e-books you will give away, don’t be too worried if someone figures out where they can download all of them without your knowledge.

Some say to place downloads into weird directories and change the names every month. In my opinion, this is a lot of work to protect downloads you will give away and are viral in nature.

When it comes to downloads for which you will be charging money, I recommend checking out the software at Elite Web Solutions. This software creates a very secure area. The customer receives a link to a download page after the sales confirmation information is processed and authenticated. Pages may even have time limits set on them. After a certain amount of time, the link to the download page is no longer valid. This software also collects the e-mail address and name of the person purchasing your product. It places that information into an auto-responder file format, allowing you to export the file into your regular auto-responder.

If you are using a shopping cart, such as Kick Start Cart, Kick Start Cart has this function already built into it on a limited basis. So, you are all ready to go.

You will not stop people from sharing your work or giving it to friends, but you can control how and when they get it from you.

Keeping busy…. very busy

I woke up this morning and thought; “Wow, did I do all that I think I did last night or did I just dream it all up?!” Seriously, I think I am Superwoman after all that I did in such a short time. That’s what happens when you are trying your hardest to cure missing someone you love!

Who does this? Even Martha Stewart couldn’t touch this: steamed, pureed, cooled and stored two different all-natural veggie purees for Sophia, fed her dinner and gave her a bath, marinated, cooked, bagged and froze a dozen chicken breasts, chopped, marinated and froze a bunch of beef, vacuumed the house, mopped the kitchen floor, washed all my throw rugs, towels and bedding, searched online and purchased some labels for my greeting cards, caught up on writing feedback to the sellers I have bought from on ebay recently, played with Sophia for a bit, put her to bed and then cooked a huge pot of low-fat turkey & veggies mix.

By the time I got all that done, I watched a couple of DVR’d tv shows and put together a couple dozen photo greeting cards for an order. By the time I went to bed, I was still missing Travis, but it did make those 2 hours fly by!

Today, I am loving the hour I have while Sophia has her nap. You have no idea how valued that one hour is!

Deployments Never Get Easier

Anyone who tells you that deployments get easier as time goes on is on a whole other planet. Every deployment brings a pretty high level of fear and continuous worrying. Negative, yes. I don’t know where there’s a positive spin to sending your loved one off to a war zone [Read more...]

Vintage Shopping

We took a little drive to my favorite vintage/second-hand store today in Clarksville, TN. It was really relaxing to wander through ‘The Old Place’. There are at least 100 sellers who rent space there. it’s two stories of collectibles, antiques and yes, some junk!

A Bible from the 1940′s, Of Mice and Men and a few other tattered old books barely held together anymore by their cover was what we came home with this weekend.

I like to use pages out of old books to make art cards. It looks neat and people enjoy buying a card that is original and has character.
