Daffodils for Travis

I went and picked up these beautiful daffodils at Loew’s for my husband’s return home from SERE School. They were outside on the front step for his return, but then I brought them inside and put them in front of the mirror that I refinished. They make the house look warm and inviting when he pulled in the driveway!

The Emerging Mirror

Ohhhh my gosh. When the cat’s away, the mouse does play! I decided to start refinishing and painting some furnishings to make our new place look cozy instead of “store boughten and mass produced.”

I bought this overly lacquered 4-foot high mirror for $10 and borrowed a sander from my girlfriend’s husband. First tip… don’t sand in the house at midnight in the middle of winter and if you do, make sure you have a very good vacuum, a new air filter for your central heating system and good Lord, get a mask!! I did none of the above by the way. Thank GAWD that my husband wasn’t home or he’d likely be dead! Somehow the dog survived. I took this photo just after the stripping and sanding. I have still got to stain and seal it. Welcome to my new world of shabby chic… which basically means that it’s a style all your own and you can’t screw it up, so just have fun with it and call yourself “Miss Shabby!”

Decor, Decor, Decor

I just got some matching potpourri stuff at TJ Maxx to go with all my new maroon colored decor. I know, I know, potpourri isn’t exactly the in thing these days. It was all about the color and shapes that jumped out and said; “Buy me! You know you can’t live without me!” It has an exotic smell to it!

I found this vase at TJ Maxx also. It looks like it’s made of wood in this photograph, but it’s not… cool, huh? It’s always fun to take a shot of something that makes people wonder what it really is! Darn, I shouldn’t have said that it was a vase and left you guessing! ;-)

Wrought Iron Shadow

The shadow was just right on one of my wrought iron candle holders. I really like this photo. I used this in my photography class for a project where we had to have one photo for each letter of the alphabet. It’s a fun way to spend a Saturday! Go around trying to spell out your name by taking photographs of objects and turning them into a letter!

As for the wrought iron candle holders, I’ve carted them all over the country and have owned them since forever! I bought them at the Los Angeles Design Center and doubt I’ll ever part with them even when they are totally outdated and tacky in years to come! :-)
